NOVI SAD
Best things to do when in Novi Sad, Serbia
So you've probably been to Belgrade already or at least heard of it from your Serbian friends and yes, I agree, Belgrade is amazing in all ways possible. Now, here comes a thing, there is this city called Novi Sad that is located in northern Serbia on the banks of Danube river. It is a second largest city in Serbia and is renowed for being the liberal city of music, art and fun.
Novi Sad is an open and tolerant city with friendly people who are proud of their cultural diversity. No wonder then, the European Union named Novi Sad the European Capital of Culture of 2022. Now if that’s not enough, here are five things to convince you why Novi Sad is worth a visit.
Petrovaradin Fortress: Explore this historic fortress, known for hosting the EXIT music festival, and enjoy panoramic views of Novi Sad and the Danube River. There are plenty of restaurants, art galleries and souvenier shops that you can enjoy while on your adventure in Novi Sad. It is possible to reach by car, public bus or my favorite: walk!
Stroll through the Old Town: Wander the charming streets of Novi Sad's Old Town, lined with colorful baroque buildings, cafes, and shops. Don't miss the Catholic Church of the Name of Mary located in the main square, it's a real jewel of the town.
Visit the Museum of Vojvodina: Learn about the region's history and culture through a diverse collection of artifacts, including art, archaeology, and ethnography. The price is around 2 EUR per person and it's located in the city center.
Dunavski Park: Relax in this picturesque park along the Danube River, featuring beautiful gardens, sculptures, and a serene atmosphere. One thing I must highlight is the cute, little coffee shop called Izlet which is right in the park, serving excellent coffee and pastries.
Attend the Petrovaradin Fortress Clock Tower tour: Climb the clock tower to see the famous "Gibraltar on the Danube" and get a unique perspective of the city. While you are there, stop by City Museum of Novi Sad where you can learn a lot about city's history but also see some galleries, exbitions and art collections.
