Amsterdam, Nethlerlands

Updated: May 17, 2023

Just like I imagined it, only better. Amsterdam is a city every person should visit during their lifetime. Being super popular in every season, this place gave me a whole new perspective on the term easygoing. There is no rush in Amsterdam but there are many things to do and explore and one thing I know for sure, I want to go back.

Netherland’s capital has a very strong artistic background apart from its famous canals which are part of UNESCO World Heritage List. I visited Amsterdam right after a little 24-hour adventure in Bruges and I can’t describe how impressed I was seeing so many bikes everywhere.

My brothers and I rented an Airbnb studio just two metro stations away from the center and getting around the town was pretty easy since metro covers all the areas.

We stayed two nights, and I can say it was not enough, so if you are planning a visit to Amsterdam, stay at least a week.

I am going to share our experience and some recommendations where to go and what to do!

This is how first time in Amsterdam looked from our point of view!

Day 1

Waking up in our cute Airbnb studio and seeing some sun after being exposed to heavy rain in Bruges felt so good. We got ready for breakfast and headed off to the center of the town via metro.

The tickets were 13 euros per person and they lasted 48 hours from the moment of the first check in, of course, there were options for a single trip, a day, few days or a week but for us this was perfect for our budget, and we could use it as much as we needed in those 2 days.

The temperature was at around 23 degrees Celsius, and we enjoyed breakfast in one of the bakeries by the canal.

Going on a trip with your brothers can be a bit awkward if you happen to visit a red light district. One erotic shop after another, erotic museums, everything that is a taboo in our home country, here is open and for everyone. I found it unique and interesting.

We spent a day walking and discovering, deciding which museum to visit and wrapped a night having a dinner in one of many restaurants near Rembrandt House Museum.

Day 2

We started our morning with debating which museum we should take a tour at. There are approximately seventy-five museums in Amsterdam but one of the most famous ones are Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House and Stedelijk Museum.

Having a limited time ahead of us we decided to go for Rijksmuseum and enjoy some hours absorbing Dutch art and history. We got the tickets online for the price of 20 euro per person and since we went in the morning it was not so crowded.

Each one of 8000 objects displayed is overflowing with history, facts and knowledge. The experience was indescribable and so unique that I would recommend this one as a must see in Amsterdam.

There is one interesting story to prove how you can get anything you want, if you just wish for it and let go. We were sitting on a canal in the late afternoon hours and my younger brother said “Oh, I am so relaxed and calm right now, I wish I had a can of cold beer” and a moment after that, I spotted one Heineken can floating in the canal, RIGHT UNDER OUR FEET. I said this to my brothers, and they thought I am joking, when I finally shouted, “Hurry up, grab it before it floats away”. There it was, cold can of beer, as if he ordered. I will never forget this.

We managed to get lost, witness high school graduates celebrating all over the town, eat the tastiest waffles topped with insane amount of chocolate, admire gorgeous windmills and the countryside on the way back to Brussels and try out variety of unique coffee shops.

The reason why I’d like to visit Amsterdam again is because there is just so much more to visit and explore!

Hope you enjoyed this little set of stories from our road trip!
